The town of Thrissur witnessed a relocation of its zoo to forest land in a place known as Puthur, located 12 km away. This transition was aimed at establishing a Zoological Park managed by the Forest Department. The state government made this decision in 2012, and subsequently, during the Budget of 2016-17, the project received funding from KIFB and state scheme allocation. In 2018, with the approval of the Ministry and State Environment Department, work commenced on utilizing 136.28 hectares of forest land from the Central Forest. The primary goal of the department is to safeguard and preserve the natural habitats of various flora and fauna species. Furthermore, applications are being welcomed for the roles of Security Guards and Gardeners at Puthur Zoological Park in Thrissur.
